– The Medical Examination and Treatment Department under the Ministry of Health in conjunction with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on March 21 held a workshop that gave guidelines on surveying the satisfaction of mothers and children with obstetric and pediatric services.

Addressing the workshop in Ho Chi Minh City, Associate Prof. Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue, head of the department, said surveys are necessary as they help medical facilities make reforms in administration and treatment, thus improving the quality of obstetric and pediatric services.

A serious survey would help find issues in the sector, he said.

The ministry has complied questionnaires that assess the satisfaction of mothers with obstetric care, as well as breastfeeding practices, the official said, adding that the questionnaires focus on health workers’ attitude and advertisements for products that replace breast milk.

Do Hong Phuong, a UNICEF expert, urged hospital directors to place more importance on nutrition issues, breastfeeding and obstetric and pediatric care.

UNICEF will continue to support, supervise and evaluate obstetric and pediatric care at Vietnamese medical centres, she said. -VNA
