Cairo (VNA) – Egypt wants to develop relations with Vietnam in the fields of politics-diplomacy, trade, investment, culture, education, tourism and people-to people exchange as the Southeast Asia nation is a focus in its Act East policy.

Egyptian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Khaled Tharwat made the remark at a talk with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Cuong who paid a two-day visit to Egypt from March 18.

Tharwat hailed Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements as well as the nation’s roles in the regional and international arenas, and reiterated that Egypt supports Vietnam’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure.

He expressed his hope for closer collaboration with Vietnam at regional forums and the UN.

Cuong, for his part, congratulated Egypt on taking the chairmanship of the African Union (AU), asking the country to back Vietnam in the process of establishing ties with the AU in the coming time.

Vietnam is willing to assist Egypt and the AU in fostering relations with the ASEAN bloc on the principle of consensus, the Vietnamese Deputy FM stressed.

Regarding measures to promote result-oriented partnership between the two countries, both diplomats agreed that ministries, sectors and localities should enhance delegation exchanges and mutual understanding.

Besides, priority must be given to the implementation of the signed agreements, including the deal on purchasing rice from Vietnam and the cooperation agreement between Ninh Binh province and Luxor province.

The Egyptian side informed that they will give more scholarships to Vietnamese students to study the Arab language in Egypt.

Touching on regional and international issues of mutual interest, they shared the view that all disputes must be handled peacefully based on international regulations.-VNA
