Hanoi (VNA) – Track and field athlete Bui Thi Thu Thao brought the second gold medal for Vietnam at the ongoing Asian Games 2018 (ASIAD 2018) in Indonesia.

Thao obtained the gold in the women’s long jump with the achievement of 6m55.

This is also the first gold medal won by Vietnamese track and field athletes at ASIAD 2018.

Earlier, Quach Thi Lan bagged the fourth silver in the women’s 400m hurdles with 55.30, while Nguyen Thi Oanh earned a bronze medal in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase with 9’43.83.

On the same day, Vietnamese Pencak Silat artists pocketed three silver medals at the largest regional sport event.

With one gold, four silver and one bronze medals recorded on the ninth competition day on August 27, the Vietnamese sport delegation jumped to the 20th in the medal tally.

The delegation consists of 523 people, including 352 athletes. It aims to snatch at least three gold medals at ASIAD 2018, which is taking place in the two major Indonesian cities - Jakarta and Palembang - from August 13 to September 2.

At the previous ASIAD in 2014, Vietnam won one gold, 10 silver and 25 bronze medals, ranking 21st in the overall medal tally.-VNA
