Hanoi (VNA)Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh hosted a reception for Director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Vietnam Michael Greene on March 7 in Hanoi.

During the meeting, Greene highlighted the close relations between his agency and Vietnam’s defence ministry in recent times, expressing his hope that the two sides will further expand their ties in the future.

Sen. Lieut. Gen. Vinh said he hopes the cooperation between Vietnam and the US in overcoming the consequences of war will continue to grow with strength.

Host and guest discussed the upcoming visit to Vietnam by a delegation of US senators led by Senator Patrick Leahy.

Accordingly, the two sides are scheduled to announce the launch of a project to treat dioxin pollution at Bien Hoa airport, and that the US side will provide an assistance of 50 million USD for Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin.

Vinh and Greene also talked about coordinating a workshop scheduled in Washington, on cooperation between the two countries in overcoming the consequences of war, aiming to mobilise resources, especially from the US side, for the work.

Later the same day, Sen. Lieut. Gen Vinh hosted a reception for Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Antonio Alessandro. –VNA
