Ha Tinh (VNA) – Competent forces of the central province of Ha Tinh on February 17 arrested a Lao man carrying 294 kg of crystal meth from Laos to Vietnam.

Vangchueyang Briachear, residing in Vang Ban hamlet, Xay Cham Phon district, Bolykhamxay province of Laos, was seized in Son Kim 1 commune, Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province while travelling with another man on a Lao-plated nine-seat car with the drug.

The 25-year-old man confessed that he was hired by another Lao man in Kham Cot district, Bolykhamxay province, to monitor and transport the drug.

Local border guards are hunting for the other man involved in the case.

The case is being further investigated.

On February 15, 9 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine and 2,000 meth pills were also seized after three drug traffickers were arrested in Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province.

Previously the same day, local police and the Drug Crime Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security detected Nguyen Thanh Trung, residing in Huong Son district, who was travelling with his two accomplices in two pickup trucks on National Road 8C from Laos.

Trung attempted to run away when he was being chased by the police. However, at about 7:30pm, all three smugglers were arrested and brought to Ha Tinh police headquarters.

The men were part of a trafficking ring from Laos into Vietnam through Cau Treo international border gate in Ha Tinh province. -VNA
