Thua Thien – Hue (VNA) – Vietnam beat Myanmar 5 – 2 in the group stages of the 2018 Thanh Nien newspaper International U21 Football Tournament, in Hue city, the central province of Thua Thien – Hue, on December 12.

The same day, the two remaining teams met, with Malaysia defeating the Republic of Korea 1-0.

The results meant the host topped the four-team table on goal difference.

The four teams will continue competing at Tu Do Stadium in a round robin format until December 22, with the best two entering the final. The winner will win 12,000 USD, while the second and third teams will receive 7,000 and 5,000 USD, respectively.

It is the second time the competition has taken place in the ancient imperial city, which hosted the National U21 Championship last November. The Vietnamese team includes the top players from November’s event.

Previously, the international tournament was scheduled to be held in Nha Trang, however, because of bad weather forecast for the city, it was moved to Hue.

Last year, Japanese representative Yokohama lifted the trophy in the tournament’s previous edition held in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.-VNA
