Hau Giang (VNA) – The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee of Hau Giang province on August 4 presented houses for poor families and scholarships for students with disadvantaged background to help them overcome difficulties.

At the hand-over ceremonies in Phuong Binh commune of Phung Hiep district and Thanh Xuan commune of Chau Thanh A district, President of the VFF Central Committee Tran Thanh Man asked authorities of Hau Giang to assist disadvantaged families and low-income earners with houses and capital for production and business activities, better care for public health, and keep security and order in rural areas.

He also noted that investing in education-training means investing in development, so the province needs to pay more attention to education-training. Additionally, to build new-style rural areas, it is also necessary to improve health care, ensure security and order, and develop production and business activities, Man said.

In Phuong Binh commune, the official presented gifts and one million VND in cash to each of 20 families which have been helped to build new houses, along with bicycles and 500,000 VND each to 25 disadvantaged students.

In Thanh Xuan commune, scholarships each worth 3 million VND were granted to 10 students with high academic results while 25 others received bicycles as support for them on the way to school. Five low-income families which were assisted to build houses also received financial aid at the ceremony.

On this occasion the VFF President presented 200 million VND (nearly 8,600 USD) financed by the central Fund for the Poor to Hau Giang to help with the construction of houses for the disadvantaged.

There are about 19,500 poor and 11,800 near-poor households in the Mekong Delta province at present.

In the first half of 2018, the provincial VFF Committee helped build 169 houses worth over 6.4 billion VND (274,700 USD) for the poor and hundreds of social facilities worth more than 70 billion VND (3 million USD). It also supported over 5,520 households to escape from poverty.–VNA
