HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam won one more gold and silver medal in the athletics event at the 10th ASEAN Schools Games in Selango, Malaysia on Tuesday.
Phan Võ Như Ý, Tô Thị Nga, Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngọc, Bùi Thị Trang beat rivals from Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia to win gold in the women’s 4x400m.
The silver medal went to Hoàng Thanh Giang in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 12.74m.
The Vietnamese track and field athletes have won a total of seven golds, three silvers and one bronze in the Games.
“I am very glad that Vietnamese athletes bagged gold medals in 1,500m, 400m hurdle and 4x400m category as most of them competed in the event for the first time. These are worthy awards for their effort,” said Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng, athletics coach.
After four days of competition, Việt Nam had gained 13 golds, eight silvers and six bronzes to rank fourth in the medal tally. Hosts Malaysia led with 30 golds, 26 silvers and 25 bronzes, followed by Indonesia and Thailand.
Việt Nam sent 60 athletes to compete at the event, which attracted the participation of 4,000 young athletes from the 10 ASEAN nations.
The event, which will run until today, aims to enhance friendship among students in Southeast Asia. — VNS
