HCM CITY – An overpass at District 2’s Mỹ Thuỷ intersection on June 29 opened to traffic, relieving traffic congestion in the area near Cát Lái port.

The four-lane overpass allows travel to and from District 7’s Phú Mỹ Bridge along Belt Road No. 2 to Hà Nội Highway, without the need to cross Đồng Văn Cống Street, which enters Cát Lái Port.

The overpass along Belt Road No. 2 creates a path for large vehicles travelling along Võ Chí Công Street.

The overpass was part of the first phase of an investment project to relieve traffic problems at the Mỹ Thuỷ intersection.

The VNĐ838 billion (US$36.7 million) phase one of the project also includes a 405-metre underpass to allow vehicles to turn left from Võ Chí Công to Cát Lái Port.

The HCM City Department of Transportation is working on investment procedures for the second phase.

The Đồng Văn Cống – Nguyễn Thị Định route towards Cát Lái Port, and Võ Chí Công Street which is a part of Belt Road No. 2, are two main routes in the city that meet at the Mỹ Thuỷ intersection.

The 316-metre long overpass costs VNĐ203 billion (US$8.9 million), according to Urban Transport Management Department No.2.  – VNS
