ĐÀ NẴNG  — The National Junior Karate Championships kicked off at the Tiên Sơn Sports Palace in Đà Nẵng today.

The event has drawn the participation of nearly 600 martial artists from 42 teams nationwide.

Male and female participants will compete in eight categories across the kata (performance) and kumite (combat) disciplines in age groups of 14-15, 16-17 and 18-22.

The annual event is a chance for scouts to find talented young artists for the national team to compete at the Southeast Asian Games and Asian Games.

It is being co-orgnasised by the municipal Department of Culture and Sports and the National Sports Administration.

The tournament will run until Tuesday. — VNS
