HCM CITY – The outbreak of swine flu A/H1N1, reported at HCM City’s Từ Dũ Maternity Hospital is now under control, with all patients now discharged from the hospital.
Dr Nguyễn Bá Mỹ Nhi, deputy head of the hospital said on Monday that patients with symptoms of swine flu have stabilised.
No new cases of infection have been reported so far. Currently, only five patients were treated in the Laparoscopy Department, of them, one showed no signs of high fever, and the others had no symptoms of influenza.
The hospital conducted disinfection work on the fifth floor of Block M, where the outbreak was reported.
Nhi said the hospital resumed receiving patients at the Laparoscopy Department from 12pm on Monday.
Dr Nguyễn Hữu Hưng, deputy director of the city’s Department of Health asked the hospital and the city’s Health Preventive Centre to monitor all infected patients in at least two more weeks. The hospital was required to re-examine its anti-bacteria procedures to curb the hospital’s virus infection.
On June 1, 16 people were tested positive for swine flu after showing symtoms such as high fever and muscle pain at Từ Dũ Maternity Hospital. One day later, the number of infected people rose to 28, including eight health staff from the hospital.
Swine flu is a mild seasonal flu with typical symptoms being high fever, coughing, headaches, muscle pain, sore throat, and runny nose. Most infected people can recover from this disease by themselves in a week without special treatment. – VNS
