Hanoi (VNA) – Many activities have been held by Vietnamese people in Spain, Germany and Mexico to mark the 128th birth anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890).

On May 19, the Vietnamese Embassy in Spain exhibited and auctioned 20 artistic photos to raise funds for disadvantaged children in Vietnam.

The event, organised in coordination with photographer Tran Viet Ha and jewellery and auction company DURAN, attracted 150 participants, including many foreigners and representatives of the diplomatic corps in Madrid.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Spain Ngo Tien Dung stressed the importance of the cultural diplomatic activity on the occasion of the 128th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh and the 41st founding anniversary of Vietnam-Spain diplomatic ties (May 23, 1977).

A sum of money equivalent to 100 million VND (nearly 4.400 USD) was collected from the auction of 15 photos. The other photos can be bought via the website of DURAN.

Later the same day, the embassy held a meeting with about 70 Spanish families adopting Vietnamese children.

Nearly 2,000 families across Spain have adopted Vietnamese children over the past two decades.

Also on May 19, the Association of Fellow Countrymen of Nghe An province in Germany organised a celebration of the 128th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh at the Dong Xuan Centre in Berlin.

Earlier, the embassy staff and the Association of Nghe An Fellow Countrymen paid respect to Ho Chi Minh at the memorial site dedicated to the President in Moritzburg town, about 15km to the northwest of Dresden city. The memorial site, located in the campus of the previous Käthe-Kollwitz-Heim school, was set up shortly after Ho Chi Minh visited the school 61 years ago.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico also held a number of activities in May to celebrate the late President’s birthday and 43 years of the two countries’ diplomatic relations (May 19, 1975).
